Tango Class!
Argentinian Tango Class began last week, brought to you by Laura Raia, Buenos Aires native and long time tango dance student and teacher. From Laura: “For me, tango is much more than learning steps or memorizing choreography. It is an opportunity to have a beautiful conversation between two people, built on connection, communication, trust, and mutual respect.” We look forward to seeing you there!

Our new Italian Conversation group led by professor of Italian Studies, Dr. Santina Ventimiglia Fortunato begins on September 14. This group for Advanced or Native speakers will take place weekly on Mondays from 10:00 AM - 11:20 AM in person. Participation will be a free benefit for members of International House!
Since we have so much interest in this opportunity and want to be sure that all participants have a chance to really speak, we will begin by capping the number of participants at 10-15 people. If you would like to chat about joining this group, please reach out to Heidi at heidi@ihouseri.org

A Special French Salon De Conversation (In person at a new time, 4pm): Joe Scott and Warren Wheelock host a special guest, Joseph Picard, D-Day survivor and recipient of the French Legion of Honor.
Mr. Picard, who is bilingual in French and English, will share experiences, stories and insights from his rich life history via a moderated discussion followed by a Q&A period. We hope that you will join us for what promises to be a very memorable event!

Sails for a Long Voyage
International House is delighted to welcome a group of world-class Chinese and American poets and translators for a very special reading! National Book Award Winner Ha Jin is joined by fellow internationally-acclaimed poets and translators Lan Lan, Xue Di, Wang Jiaxin, Qingyan, Jami Proctor Xu, Eleanor Goodman, and Fangkai Lyu for an evening of poetry and a discussion of the choices and challenges involved in poetic translation. Gained In Translation
Doors open at 6:00. Show 6:30 - 8:00 PM. Light refreshments served. Concert will be held outside (indoors if raining) with seating.
Gained in Translation is a group of top notch musicians whose multi language, genre-hopping musical repertoire will take you from the subtle beauty of bossa-nova to the sheer exuberance of Russian Gypsy music, and everything in between! Come listen and dance to the favorites both familiar (and not so familiar!) by Frank Sinatra, Dionne Warwick, Dean Martin, Jobim, Los Panchos, Aznavour, Piaf and others. The group will be singing in: French, Ukrainian, Russian, Gypsy, Portuguese and Creole, Japanese, German, Swahili, Italian, Spanish & Yiddish. Beautiful music and languages presented to you by Maurice Methot: rhythm guitar, vocals, Chris Brooks : lead guitar, vocals, Julie Fischer: bass, Victoria Richter: accordion, vocals.
